150 Billion Euros for bad Software Quality in Europe ... each Year!

150 Billion Euros for bad Software Quality in Europe ... each Year!

According to a study of the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 80% of software development costs are finding and fixing defects (1)
Like an iceberg, most of the bugs are "hidden" bugs.

Unfortunately in some companies testing is still seen as a necessary evil that occurs at the end of the project.
More and more companies, are inclined to spend more on testing. They have understood that testing is an investment in quality. The investment in tests produces a positive return, has quantifiable findings, fits within the overall project schedule, and is seen as a definite contributor to the project.

What Does Quality Cost?

In Principles of Quality Costs Jim Campenella illustrates a technique of analysing the costs of quality by adding conformance costs and nonconformance costs:

Cost of Quality   =   Conformance Cost   +   Nonconformance Cost

Conformance costs include money spent on quality assurance.
Nonconformance costs is the money spent on internal failures (the cost to fix the errors found during testing) and the costs of external failure which appears when a defect is found by the user after delivery. The costs of external failure are much higher than those associated with the error detection before release. In addition, there will be angry customers, damage to the company image, lost business, risk of lawsuits, and for security critical software injuries and even deaths...
It is cheaper to prevent problems than to repair them. Testing and quality has an excellent return on investment. The earlier a defect is found, the less it costs.
We at Verifysoft Technology help you with state of the art software testing and analysis tools, consulting and trainings to insure a high quality level in your company and for your products.
